Ashkelon National Park
In Tel Ashkelon National Park you can see the remains of the important port city, 4,000 years old. Commerce flourished there, alongside agriculture, under different rulers and cultures. You can also enjoy the spectacular view, the beach, a pleasant stay in the shade of the garden trees and a walk among the archaeological findings. In the past year, large-scale works have been carried out in the National Garden, in cooperation with the Municipality of Ashkelon and the Nature and Parks Authority, with the aim of improving the visitor's experience and revealing to him the treasures of the garden. The works include the exposure and reconstruction of the Roman Basilica and the Odeon building, an accessible path between the archaeological findings and the establishment of a visitor center in the heart of the garden.
As part of the renewal works of the national park, an improvement of the modern visiting infrastructure is also being carried out, which was based on the works of the Yahalom Zur landscape architects' office starting in the 1970s. The highlight is the renovation of the old open-air theater which was designed in the 80's on the inner slope of the old city wall. In renewing the theater, we incorporated industrialized materials of a local nature, adapting it to contemporary needs and integrating it into the landscape of the national park.
