Hiriya Park
Design competition.
Hiriya is a unique landform, a “leftover landscape”. Its building material is trash, the debris and detritus of everyday life. But beneath the soil that covers it, our garbage is still teeming with life. The proposed plan views the operation and maintenance of the site as a catalyst, generating change. The new landscape of Park Hiriya will be the product of these processes.
The proposed park will expose the true nature of Hiriya, its oddness as an artifact of huge dimensions. Visitors will be invited to experience a truly unique park, whose new landscape was created on the collective garbage heap, made up of their own trash.
Public design competition, Tsurnamal Bar-Lev Landscape Architecture, landscape architect Chavi Livneh and architect Dorona Yogev, in conjunction with landscape architect Liat Chiel and landscape architect Adi Noy, 2004
