Kozlovsky Hill, Givatayim

Kozlovsky Hill, Givatayim

Once upon a time there was a hill...
The story of Givat Kozlovsky is the story of Givatayim. A last hill that allows a glimpse of the city before it was occupied.
But the hill also tells a story of development, of environmental struggles and of local pride for saving it from construction. The first actions we propose to do on Kozlovsky Hill are actions of erasure and restoration. In this process we chose to preserve not only the natural habitats but also something beyond the place - impressive evidence of the tension between the city and the hill, brushstrokes of development - pipes, walls and quarry lines. Areas that have been violated and evacuated will undergo landscape restoration, including the creation of 'refuge gardens' for species of local flora in danger of extinction.
The new public building is intended to house the 'Kurkar Museum', a home for geomorphological and ecological information complementing the outdoor experience.
Through the restoration works and the new visiting infrastructure - the museum, the path and the places along it - the hill will be filled with life and activity. The tension that exists between Kozlovsky Hill and between the lines of the infrastructure and the urban development constitutes raw material for our intervention there. This tension sharpens the separate essence of the hill landscape, the 'last landscape'. The tension between the "natural" and the man-made fact accentuates the drama of the story of the hill and thus preserves its legacy, in a new interpretation.
